Attaining and maintaining your optimal weight is a path toward disease prevention and health promotion. And portion control is an essential component of weight management. 

Changing your thoughts can change the way you eat.  As a registered dietitian, I have worked with individuals for 30 years to help them change their thoughts, behaviors and actions to attain and sustain their optimal weight. 

Here’s a list of tips on how to eat less. 


Stop Eating before you are full.

Eat when you are hungry – not when you are bored.

Consult your gut – Be guided by your hunger and fullness cues

Eat slowly – savor your food.

The banquet is in the first bite.

Spend as much time enjoying your food as it took prepare.

Buy smaller plates and glasses.

Serve a proper portion and don’t go back for seconds.

Eat what you need so you don’t need to keep eating.

Do all your eating at the table.

Leave something on your plate.
